Tarina: When Two Worlds Collide (Englanniksi) [Co-Written]

ViestiKirjoittaja Hekate » 03.07.2008, 16:28

Kuten arvata saattaa, meikä voitti (Klaava \o/). Etjoo, enjoy.

”So… what would be the name of my target?” asked the sinister man in the shadows, tightening his gloves.

“Vanessa Esmeralda Stillwind, a sorceress. An air sorcery specialist at that, you ought to be careful with her.”

He chuckled, “Wouldn’t be my first trickster, I know how to deal with those.”

With that, he was gone.

Elsewhere, a certain couple kissed goodbye. A young sorceress and her lover, a blacksmith’s daughter. There, in the dorms of the local academy of magic, they gently embraced.

“Darling, I’ll be late for work,” Vanessa said after a high-pitched gasp.

“It’s a shame,” her gold-haired angel whispered in her ear. Such a seductive voice…

Reluctantly, they broke off of each other.

“Don’t kill anyone while you’re out, okay?” the other lady said with a wink and a giggle.

“Hekate, honey, I couldn’t kill anyone,” the sorceress replied, straightening her skirt.

“Sure you can. Just give ‘em a smile and they’ll fall right down.” Hekate snapped back, smiling.

Blushing, Vanessa teleported herself out. Humming thoughtfully, Hekate sat down on Vanessa’s bed and glanced at the clock. 9:15, she could probably just sleep for a while more. Afterall, it was Saturday. Sighing contentedly, she allowed herself to fall down on the bed.

Seconds later, she heard a window shattering right next to her. She sat up in an instant and looked. A man, down on one knee, took a deep breath and stood up, swiping a few pieces of broken glass off his shoulder. He muttered, “Bloody magical barriers…”

Hekate frowned as she stoop up aswell. Crossing her arms over her chest, she asked, “Who the hell are you and what do you want?”

“That would be none of your business, Goldilocks,” the man responded, taking a quick look around. Seeing no one else in the room, he turned back to Hekate and spoke. “Sorry for interrupting, I suppose the lady I’m seeking is not here.”

Hekate raised an eyebrow, “And who might this lady be?”

He hummed thoughtfully, eyeing the young woman for a while. “Vanessa Stillwind, a sorceress. But since she’s not present, I have no reason to remain here.” He looked out of the window and sighed deeply. Jumping down from that altitude would be fatal even to an agile man like him. “Now, if you’ll excuse me…” he said as he headed for the door.

He felt a hand on his shoulder and stopped to his tracks. He rolled his eyes, “Ma’am, I have no quarrel with you. Please let go of m-“

“You have a problem with Stillwind, you have a problem with me,” Hekate stated sternly, glaring at him.

A smirk appeared on his lips, “Milady, I haven’t lived for too long, but I’ve killed more than one person who’ve touched me like that.”

“I’ve beaten more than one person in a pub brawl who’ve threatened me like that,” Hekate snapped back, smirking equally slyly.

The man raised an eyebrow, “Really now? However, it’s not you I’m threatening. It’s Lady Stillwind who should feel that way. Now, please let go of me so I can leave.”

Hekate sighed, “I don’t think you understand, sir. If you’re after her, you’ll have to go through me first.”

“Well, if you really have such a dire need to die,” he said as he placed a hand on Hekate’s chest to push her away. As Hekate reflectively leapt back a little, he pulled on of his blades halfway out of its sheath.

“It takes more than a sword to scare me,” Hekate said in a taunting manner, moving into a defensive brawling position.

“You obviously aren’t Stillwind, and you’re a woman. Hence I’m going to let you live. However, I doubt you’ll be using those pretty hands of yours for a while.”

“Really? As we know, talk is cheap.”

Letting out a muffled groan, the man drew the blade and swung it across the air. “Well then, how about we stop talking? Let’s see if you’re anywhere near my skill.”

Hekate snerked, “That’s what they all say!” With that, she did a slight beckoning gesture, “Now, show me how good you are.”

Slowly, he walked towards Hekate. Once he was close enough he leapt to his right and pounced towards Hekate in an attempt to slap her on the thigh with the flatside of his sword. The woman, however, had anticipated this, leaping forward and dashing towards the man who was now charging in the wrong direction. Grinning, Hekate braced herself and did a swift strike to the left side of his ribcage with her elbow. Struck, the man spun in mid-air and crashed into the night drawer next to Vanessa’s bed, having the lamp standing on top to fall down and shatter. Coughing, he stood up while the woman leapt back once more.

“Note to self,” he muttered to himself, “Don’t underestimate your foe.” One little slide and a swing later, a handful of glass shards were thrown towards Hekate. Three quick leaps and they were mostly dodged, the few hitting ones merely went through the dress.

“This was expensive, you know,” Hekate said with a sigh, looking down at her plain, black skirt, which now had a few small holes on it.

“Why are you trying to protect this Stillwind person, anyway? You’re her sister or something? Perhaps a cousin?”

“No, I merely am her.” Hekate answered, smiling faintly.

For a while, he just stared at her. “… really? You should know I hate being tricked. Well then, Lady Stillwind, allow me to introduce myself: My name is Assassin Waril Shieldheart, and I believe you already know what I came here for. Now, you shall die before you can even think of your next spell!”

A few dodged slashes, and Hekate came up with a plan. She kept on evading, moving towards the wardrobe.

“Got you cornered!” Waril yelled as he leapt towards her, slashing his blade. Hekate ducked, and as the blade hit the wardrobe Hekate placed a hand on Waril’s chest and yelled, “Wind Blast!”

A protective enchantment placed on the wardrobe violently threw Waril against the wall. Hekate hummed thoughtfully, “Got me cornered, eh?”

Muttering to himself, Waril stood up scratching his head, “So you actually are a sorceress… I’m impressed, Lady Stillwind. However, you aren’t the first trickster I’ve killed, and there’s no way I’d lose to a mere woman.”

Hekate rolled her eyes, “That’s what the last guy said too, if I recall correctly. People do have a habit of underestimating me because of my gender.” Smirking, she added, “You told yourself not to do so a moment ago, did you not?”

Waril gritted his teeth, twitching in anger. He groaned before forcing a smile, “I suppose you’re right, Lady Stillwind. That doesn’t change the fact that I’m here to kill you, and that is what I shall do.” He reached his left hand to his waist and drew a second sword, spinning it with practised ease.

“Just die…” he said with a low voice as he started to walk towards the young woman, “… Vanessa.” Raising an eyebrow, Hekate peered at the two blades before taking a few steps back.

“How interesting,” she said calmly as she was right in front of the wardrobe again. Waril raised an eyebrow to this, smiling. “Don’t think I’d just charge at you again, my lady.” With that, he simply kept walking towards her.

Hekate settled to grin at this. As Waril was just that hint too far away to slash at her, she extended a hand towards him and yelled, “Wind Wave!”

Nothing happened. Waril had already leapt back to a defensive position though. Confused, he couldn’t anticipate Hekate charging at him and pulling a pristine, light blue dagger out of her left sleeve. With one simple slash she riposted one of his swords, sending it flying out of the window. Waril jumped after the weapon trying to save it, but was too late. Barely avoiding to follow the sword outside, he hit the nearby wall in anger. “Damnit! You stupid witc-… wait a minute…” he grunted, peering at the decorated dagger in Hekate’s hand. “Why would a witch have a blade like that with her? And why didn’t anything happen just now?”

“None of your concern!” Hekate yelled at him and charged, flipping the dagger in her hand. In on swift motion she moved herself to Waril’s left side and slashed. He parried it with ease, grunting as he pushed Hekate away. “Why won’t you tell me while you still can? You aren’t a trickster afterall, are you?”

“Damn right I’m not,” Hekate answered, holding a defensive battle stance, “And to be honest, I’m not the woman you’re looking for either.”

“What the f… Who are you, then?!” Waril roared at him, shaking of anger.

“Hekate Stormsword, apprentice blacksmith, one-time dragonslayer and Vanessa’s… ehm… best friend.”

Waril could only laugh, shaking his head, “Female blacksmith? Female bloody dragonslayer?! I know what I said about underestimating, but this is just ridiculous!”

“As you can see, I’m full of surprises.” Hekate answered with a smile.

“Yes… clearly so, miss Stormsword. You’re not the only one, though. I respect your strength, and will let you live if you’ll only tell me where I can find Stillwind.”

Hekate chuckled, “First off, you’d never beat her. Secondly, you don’t need to find her. Once she sees what you did to that lamp she’ll find you. And thirdly, how am I supposed to know? She’s a bloody sorceress, they never work twice at the same location!”

Waril sighed, “Fine, I guess I’ll just wait for her to return, then. You can either leave and keep your life, or stay here and die. The choice is yours. I have a sword while you have a bloody butter knife. We all know how it’ll end if we keep fighting each other.”

“What was that about underestimating again?” Hekate asked with a taunting voice.

“You’re starting to get on my nerves, young lady.” Waril smirked, tightening his grip on the sword

“Whatever… if you want to be annihilated by Vanessa, I’m fine with that,” Hekate said calmly as she walked to the drawer and pulled out what appeared to be a simple bar of steel. She raised it up and whispered something, vanishing in an instant. As the metal bar fell back into the drawer, Waril cursed loudly.

“That bitch ran away?! Son of a…” he roared in rage, storming out of the room.

Three minutes and a lot of destroyed furniture later, he was outside in the park. He instantly turned right and went to look for his lost sword. Not long until he saw it lying on the grass. He calmly walked to it, but as he was a mere ten feet away from it, he noticed a figure leaning against a tree.

It was Hekate. She still wore that plain, black dress, but her weaponry was somewhat different. The dagger was gone, probably back into her left sleeve, and she had something slightly bigger in her hand. It was a two-handed runite claymore, and in comparison to the woman wielding it, it was simply huge. It was resting on her shoulder.

“Hiya!” she greeted him, walking to Waril’s lost sword and gently kicking it off. “Sorry for not acting really heroic there, but I figured that I need more than a silly dagger for a bothersome case like you.”

“Why you little… Fine! I’m sure you agree with me that we’ll end this right here, right now!”

”I suppose so. Are you prepared to face a female dragonslayer with proper weaponry?

With a simple smile, Waril nodded, “Bring it on, bitch.”

Miss Bitch to you!” Hekate yelled as he took a firm hold of her claymore and leapt to Waril. In mid-air, she braced her arms and mercilessly swung the heavy blade. Leaping back and rolling over the grass, Waril quickly stood up and dashed towards Hekate. As her blade bit the grass, she also leapt back, raising her claymore barely in time to parry Waril’s attempt to prick her. Resulting in a stalemate, they disengaged, both jumping backwards and taking a defensive battle stance.

“I suppose it’s true… you could’ve beaten a dragon.”

“That dragon underestimated me,” Hekate said with a grin, referring to what the two had said to each other earlier.

“Hah… you have a big mouth.” Waril grinned smugly, “But don’t be so cocky, this lizard moves fast.”

”So did the last one, the said lizard is now dead.”

“Do you always have to get the last word?”

“Yes, it’s surprisingly fun.”

“… whatever.” Waril said as he stepped forth, “Have at you!”

And so their dance began. Waril, having the advantage of manoeuvrability, dashed back and forth around Hekate, attempting to stab and slash her from many directions. Hekate, having the advantage of a large, heavy object, was able to parry most of these. Metal clashed against metal and every now and then one could hear the sound of cloth being torn. For a while Waril appeared to have the upper hand. A while later Waril managed to get Hekate off her balance. He saw his chance and leapt behind her. One quick slash across her back, and she was forced on all fours, groaning out her pain. Even though she was hit, she still had a firm hold of her sword.

”Bye bye, miss Stormsword!” he yelled cheerfully as he turned his blade in his hand and raised it to execute the young woman. Before he could react, Hekate rolled to her left and slashed the now defenceless man with the claymore. A clean, slashing hit right across his chest both wounded him severely and sent him staggering backwards. As he hit a tree he fell down on his bottom, gasping for breath. Hekate slowly stood up and raised her claymore, having slight difficulties in doing so. Waril, however, was in a worse condition. With the wind knocked out of him, he was still gasping for air. He had his hands on his violently bleeding chest. He had dropped his sword as his back met the tree, and it was lying next to him.

As he caught a little breath, Waril spoke weakly, “I’m in this condition thanks to a bloody woman? This is just…”

“Don’t u-…” Hekate interrupted, only to be counter-interrupted by Waril

“Don’t you fucking dare say ‘underestimate’!”

Hekate chuckled. With a painful groan she stood up leaning against her claymore. “If you insist that I won’t…” She coughed, panting heavily as she turned to stare at Waril. Even though it first looked like it, she didn’t even try to get closer to him. She knew she didn’t have enough stamina for that.

“You know, Hekate…” Waril said as he slowly picked up his sword and stood up, seeming very dependent on the tree to keep himself standing, “If I would’ve ever allowed myself to fall in love with someone… it would’ve probably been you.”

Hekate blinked a few times, nearly tripping over, “Ye’what?!”

“Don’t make me repeat myself! I want to stab myself for what I just said,” Waril answered with a weak cough, “but it’s your flesh my blade hungers. And I don’t want to leave it hungry.”

“I doubt you’re in the position to say stuff like that, sweetheart,” Hekate stated, flashing a little smile at him.

“I’ve had worse.”

“Maybe so, but I’m still standing. It may become worse in just a moment.”

“We’ll see about that, Hekate…”

A few deep breaths later, the two had gathered the little energy needed to raise their weapons and walk towards each other. A moment later the ground collapsed beneath Waril, and he sunk with a surprised yelp. Sighing, Hekate walked to the edge of the newly formed manhole and peered down.

“Not funny, Shieldheart! Get up!” she yelled after him, cursing under her breath.

Waril coughed weakly, having the wind knocked out of him again. The girl’s right, this is so not funny… Gasping for breath, he reflectively pushed himself up and tried to look around. It was dark, too dark for him to see a thing. Cursing, he waited for his eyes to adjust to the darkness. Soon he realised where he was, and smirked.

“Hekate,” he yelled, looking up at the hole he fell down from, “This is a bit embarrassing, but I appear to be unable to walk. Mind helping me out a little.”

“Oh, fine, if you so direly want to be finished off!” Hekate yelled back, carefully descending into the darkness. She frowned as her eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness. She glanced around, but didn’t see anything moving.

“I should warn you, Hekate… darkness is my element, my area of expertise.”

Hekate looked around, trying to figure where the voice was coming from. Gritting her teeth, she took a firm hold of her claymore. She breathed silently and observed her surroundings, trying her best not to make a sound herself. In the silence, she could feel her senses heighten. Still nothing. She was growing anxious. She wanted to move, but it would be difficult to do without making a sound. Just in the middle of her thinking, a sound.

A drop, probably blood, dropping on the ground just to her right.

As she leapt to her left and swung her blade, she felt a minor prick on her right side.

Leaping and doing a roll backwards, Waril barely missed decapitation. Almost fainting due to his pain, he quickly stood up. To his disappointment, his vision started to blur a little.

“You’re quite amazing for a woman, Hekate,” he spoke as quietly as possible so that Hekate could still hear him, trying not to reveal his position.

“I get that a lot, but thanks,” Hekate answered, taking a defensive stance and facing the direction he believed Waril to be in.

She was correct, and was soon answering a careful attack by Waril with a reckless swing of a claymore. With each swing the blade became heavier in her hands, but she didn’t care. Metal clashed against metal, and she was able to keep the assassin at bay.

“It’s the first time ever that I’m not really sure that I can win, but… I’m still going to fight until I run out of blood!” Waril stated as he charged.

The sounds they make stirred up something that had strength beyond those two. The giant mole living underneath the park was awakened by the repetitive clashes. Angered, it dashed down its self-made tunnel to drive the intruders away.

“Just die already!” Waril yelled in frustration as he tiredly swung his blade towards Hekate.

“Never!” Hekate yelled back, parrying the blow.

A great mass consumed them both, knocking them back, away from each other. With that they felt the surroundings rumble. The tunnel was about to collapse. Both Hekate and Waril stood up and dashed to the small hole above them. The tunnel had collapsed enough to make a way to said hole, but it wouldn’t last for long. Aware of this they both squeezed every bit of strength they had left. Hekate glanced to her left and saw Waril running right behind her. She turned the claymore in her hand and turned around.

”FUCK OFF!” she screamed as she swung the heavy blade. Waril raised his own to parry, but was met with the sheer weight of the claymore. Struck to the chest with the flatside of the claymore, he fell back into the dark tunnel. He did, however, manage to toss a dagger in her direction, which hit her in the back. She gasped in pain, and did her best to ignore it.

Not knowing nor caring if he’d survive, Hekate continued her trek up. A desperate leap, and she barely made it out in time. She felt the ground shake as the underground tunnel network collapsed.

I won… but it’s not over yet.

With great pain, she forced herself up and slowly, but steadily walked to the closest safe haven: Vanessa’s room in the dormitories.

At the same time, Waril struggled up, having the wind blown out of himself for the third time in a short amount of time.

I won… but I still need to get out of here.

The tunnel continued collapsing, and the situation started to look more and more hopeless…

Two hours later

Vanessa gasped in shock as she entered her room. Hekate raised her head and looked up at her. She was sitting in a corner, leaning against the wall with her bloodstained claymore next to her.

“Hi, dear… some guy wanted you dead and sent some Shieldheart assassin guy, took care of him.” She said with a little smile before gasping in pain.

Vanessa turned around and ran out screaming, “Physician! I need a physician!”

On a small hill a stone throw away from Falador, Waril leaned against a tree. He went through what had happened in his head, repeatedly coming to the conclusion that it wasn’t just skill that got him out of there… there was a hint of luck there aswell. After this his thoughts focused on Hekate. Reckless and crazy, no doubt, but amazing for a woman. He smiled to himself, “Well… I have to admit that she was kinda cute.”

Wrapping another layer of cloth he had looted from some unlucky highwayman that got in his way around his chest, he sighed. “Well, Hekate… as my token of respect for you, I won’t even try to find that Stillwind girl… rest in peace.”

Blowing a quick kiss into the wind, he turned around and walked off.

Hmh, tarina on hyvä, mutta sekava. Hahmojen persoonallisuus on erilainen verratuna henkilökohtaisiin tarinoihin, kuten muzuzu mainitsikin.. ihan ok... 8+
